Volume I contains the first four sonatas. They are of moderate difficulty. Cervetto's predilection for the Lombard rhythm is evident in the first sonata, and throughout the others. The second sonata is the longest of the twelve, having five movements. Its first movement is a sicilienne, and the fourth is in fugato style. The third sonata movement illustrates Cervetto's frequent use of augmented scale intervals.
